Applications
The first thing you will need to do is complete an application for employment. Ok, so you already knew that, right? But did you know that the appearance, truthfulness and presentation of an application can all be important deciding factors in the hiring game?  The application can demonstrate attention to detail and ability to follow directions. It can reveal a person’s willingness to learn and also what level of importance they place in finding a job. There are several factors that can make or break your employment application, the trick is to know and use them to your advantage.  Attend an Awesome Application workshop for more information.

Resumes and cover letters
Your resume is often the first thing an employer sees when you are applying for a job or internship. This critical document forms a LASTING impression...make sure it is a GOOD impression.  If you have never written a resume, attend a Rockin' Resumes workshop to learn the basics.
Your Cover Letter is the next step.  Create a strong cover letter by following the proper format, personalizing your letter, highlighting your skills and abilities.  If you have never written a cover letter, attend a Killer Cover Letter workshop.  Once you create a first draft, schedule an appointment with a counselor for a resume and cover letter critique.

Mock interviews and interviewing skills
Interviewing skills are an important component of the job search. No matter how good you are at answering questions when you are on the spot, you will always have better answers to interview questions if you have practiced ahead of time. Attend an Ace Your Interview workshop to learn interview techniques to small groups.

Job Skills
When completing a job application or a resume and during an interview you will be asked about your skills. These skills are abilities that are acquired or developed through training or experience. Employers may also want to know personal traits that are distinguishing features of a person’s character.

Workshops and Events
A variety of workshops and special events are held throughout the year to help you land the job you’ve always wanted. Workshops focus on resume writing, interviewing, the job search, career fair strategies, internships, networking, and more.  Check the Calendar of Events for the current schedule of workshops and special events.
