Mission – Why Does the Youth Council Exist? |
What is the Purpose of the Youth Council?
"To provide opportunities for employment, training and education to promote successful outcomes for youth."
Vision
"To create a pathway to economic success for Jefferson County’s youth through the influence of policy and practice."
The purpose of the Youth Council is to assist the Workforce Board is:
| - | Developing and recommending local youth employment and training policy and practice; |
| - | Broadening the youth employment and training focus in the community to incorporate a youth development prospective; |
| - | Taking into account a range of issues that can have an impact on the success of youth in the labor market. |
The formal duties of Youth Council members include
| - | Assisting in the development of the local WIA Youth plan, |
| - | Recommending local youth providers, |
| - | Coordinate youth activities in the local area |
| - | And other duties deemed to be appropriate by the Chairperson of the Workforce Board. |
All actions and plans are recommended to the Workforce Board and/or the Executive committee for approval
The WIA designates membership requirements. Membership must include:
| - | Educators, employers, representatives from human service agencies with youth interest and expertise in policy making |
| - | Parents of youth eligible Workforce Investment Act youth |
| - | Juvenile justice or local law enforcement |
| - | Youth program participants Job Corps |
| - | Workforce Board member local public housing |
