Get A Job ImageAlready registered? Review the Jeffco YouthWorks "Get A Job Tool Kit." If you have any questions about your job search, call a Jeffco YouthWorks representative at 303-271-4613. If needed, set an appointment and come prepared by gathering the following information for a successful job search:

  • Your resume. This document is often the first thing an employer sees when you apply for a job or internship. If you have never written a resume, start by listing all your work experience, skills (such as computer programs and applications), volunteer work, school honors and activities. Employers may also want to know about personal traits that would make you a valuable employee (such as being reliable, prompt,
    and trustworthy).
  • A list of references. Also create a list of people - other than family members - who know your work or you personally and would recommend you for a job.
  • A cover letter. Create a cover letter by following the proper letter format, personalizing your letter and highlighting your skills and abilities.
  • Practice Interviewing. Interviewing skills are an important component of the job search. No matter how good you are at answering questions, you'll always have better answers to interview questions if you practice ahead of time.

Submit Job Applications
Once you have your resume complete - and your interviewing skills down - it's time to find that great job. In most cases, you'll need to fill out an application. Remember, the appearance, truthfulness and presentation of an application can be important deciding factors in the hiring game. The application can demonstrate attention to detail and ability to follow directions. It can reveal your willingness to learn and level of importance you place in finding a job.
